Yoga course descriptions

BEGINNERS/INTERMEDIATE

Every participant will be challenged at his/her own level and form on the day. The class sequence and poses will be apporopriate for every one; alternatives will be provided as required. Seven main topics (standing poses, forward stretches, twists, backward stretches, inversions, regenerative and pranayama (breathing exercises)) will be rotated weekly. With regular attendance you will develop all-round physical fitness and awareness.

INTERMEDIATE

- for people who are already familiar with the basic Yoga principles of alignment and want to add the elegance, calmness and strength of IYENGAR Yoga to their lives. Seven main topics (standing poses, forward stretches, twists, backward stretches, inversions, regenerative and pranayama (breathing exercises)) will be rotated weekly. Familiar poses are studied in more detail and more complex ones will be introduced.

START UP YOGA beginner

This class is for people who are interested in experiencing Yoga for the first time and also for those wishing to learn the basic principles of alignment and safety in Yoga poses. People of all levels of fitness are welcome. Six main topics (standing poses, forward stretches, twists, backward stretches, inversions, regenerative) will be rotated weekly. Standing poses will be emphasized. With regular attendance you will develop all-round physical fitness and awareness.

PRE-REGISTERED TWICE-WEEKLY Mondays&Wednesdays 7:15-8:45 beginners/intermediate

Applying the basics of alignment and safety, we will explore the great variety the IYENGAR Yoga method has to offer – and get fit in the process! By attending twice weekly you become more ‘intimate’ with your practice while enjoying learning in a pleasant group atmosphere. Seven main topics (standing poses, forward stretches, twists, backward stretches, inversions, regenerative and pranayama (breathing exercises)) will be rotated weekly. With regular attendance you will develop all-round physical fitness and awareness.

NIFTY FIFTIES age-appropriate

This class is for people who feel more comfortable engaging in a suitable Yoga practice with others in their age group. Human bodies start aging at about 25. Now that we’re more than twice that age it is all the more important to exercise in a safe and inteligent manner; staying and getting strong, flexible, grounded and coordinated – all the while keeping in mind our unique limitations so that we don’t injure ourselves. In this pre-registered course we do just that; exploring our physical boundaries and enjoying the process of expanding them, while staying mindful and alert in the present.

PRE-REGISTERED ONCE-WEEKLY Tuesdays 7:15-8:45 beginners/intermediate

Pre-registering assists you in keeping the commitment you made to yourself. LUNCH YOGA beginners/intermediate

Our modern ‘work stations’ provide new challenges for our physical and mental well-being so; for a mid-day tonic we will stretch, strengthen and regenerate our bodies and souls for the rest of the day!

GENTLY YOGA

This class will move through asanas in a gentle, relaxing manner and is appropriate for beginners. Gentle Yoga will also provide opportunities for core engagement and strengthening in addition to flexibility and strengthening of other musculature. Restorative postures and relaxation techniques in addition to alignment and breath principles will be emphasized. This class will be taught in the Shambhava tradition.
